Before

After

In case anyone was wondering

I still use Microsoft Word 2007 to post to this blog. Occasionally, I will use the wordpress backend for some minor code adjustments for posts, but for the most part Word 2007 is a great blogging tool. It has the nice neat ribbons interface which is strange at first but you get used to it real quick. Yes, it is better than the old toolbar method. Every so often I explore it a bit and find some neat tools that I didn’t expect to be there.

For instance; over the years, Microsoft has gradually added to the quality and quantity of clip art and shapes available from within their applications. The simple graphic above is what is now called Smart Art. I suppose it’s great for all those PowerPoint Professionals that love to to jazz up their presentations (You know who you are).

The thing is, PowerPoint is abused and not used effectively. The slide show is supposed to enhance your presentation not be it. There are plenty of resources on the web that talk about this and even tell you some dos and don’ts of PowerPoint.

I digress, the Smart Art can be very effective if used right. How is right? I suppose that depends on the material at hand.

Metal Detectors for Security

While I was in Iraq, I personally search tens of thousands of people, many by hand. I also searched thousands of vehicles with nothing but a mirror and a flashlight. Rapiscan Systems metal detectors would have come in handy, very handy. In fact, some of their systems are in use in Iraq in various locations (just not mine) and the importance of security can never be overstated. Whether it’s a school, a prison, a nightclub or an airport, proper security can avert many a disaster.

If you are responsible for the security on your job and are considering upgrading or improving, look into Rapiscan’s metal detectors.

Blog advertising quickly has become a great way to get traffic going towards your business website. Yes, there are those ‘publicity’ firms that claim they can get you more business but what usually happens, if you don’t pick the right one, is they take your money, do a couple things and nothing comes of it. Blog advertising is tangible and lasting. You pay a service that pays bloggers (like me!) to write about your product or service and link to your site. When the search engines crawl the blogs they notice people talking about YOU and you get a higher page rank. Most of these services require the blogger to maintain the ad on their blog (in natural order) for anywhere from 30 days to a year to even forever. So that search engines will always notice you.

Malpractice Attorney

According to medical malpractice attorney New York more people die each year in the US from medical errors than from motor vehicle accidents, cancer and AIDS! (not combined) I am all for forgive and let live for honest errors but malpractice suits also cover dishonest errors. If someone is injured as a result of rushed surgery, infections from instruments, or a doctor not doing their job the way they know to then by all means the victim should get some recompence.

Get Rid of the Distractions

Your cubicle might be where you have to do all of your work, but if you’re anything like me then you know that’s it’s not always the best place for focusing on what you’re working on. Whether it’s the guy in the next cubicle with a cold, the girl across from you that thinks the person on the phone is hilarious, or your boss behind you yelling at somebody else, there are tons of distractions at work. Fortunately you can avoid all those distractions with some noise reduction headphones from Quiet Headphones and your favorite music. With the earphones that you’ll get from Quiet Headphones you’ll be able to increase your productivity and enjoy your favorite tunes at the same time. Before you know it, you’re boss will be talking to you, but he won’t be yelling. See if I’m not right.
