She likes me, she likes me not
Feb 4th
A recent study at Vienna’s Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Urban Ethology is showing that women send mixed signals! Are you serious? This is crazy! Who comes up with this stuff? The article at Psychology Today describes how a man and woman were paired under the pretense that they would be rating a video and were then left alone for a time. It was discovered (!) that women lead men on only to justify their first impressions. The observations and hypothesis were validated by a survey taken by the women after the encounter asking them to rate the attractiveness of the man and whether they would date them or not.
Now stop winking at me!
Movie Review: Children of Men
Feb 4th
Â
Set in a future society where the youngest person in the world has just died, this movie is designed to generate a feeling if not a following. Although the backdrop is Britain, there are many similarities and direct references to the war in Iraq. In one scene there is a man standing in a sheet, arms outstretched with a sandbag bag over his head. An exact replica of one of the many prisoner abuse photos from the Abu Ghraib scandal.
Â
The story is touching and real. The side effects of no more children being born has been well thought out. As with any dire times, different countries can become the focus of refugees. The constant influx of people wanting a better life and how the government deals with it is very stark.
Â
Without giving too much away, there is one scene that will tug at many hearts. A very realistic moment happens that shows, literally what it would take for people of today to believe in miracles.

Fellow Students, Consolidate your Student Loans
Feb 4th
You might not have planned it this way but somehow you ended up with various student loans at different rates, different amounts and different payment start dates. Life is too confusing as it is so you should do something to make it simpler. Other reasons to consolidate might be that you discovered that you have to start as an intern or some low paying entry level position, where you will not make enough to make your own bills let alone student loans. Student Loan Consolidation might be right for you but it is worth your time to check out what SecureLoanConsolidation.com has to offer in advice.![]()
King Arthur he was not…
Feb 3rd
This article strikes me as side splittingly funny. Apparently some guy got picked on a little too much in a mall in Halifax the other day. So what does he decide to do? He steals a sword from the knife store and runs around the mall swinging it like a madman. Eventually he was Tasered by police but not before scaring the hell out of a lot of people who apparently do not know what to do with a sword wielding mad man… read on
Honors’ Contracts are in
Feb 2nd
Today was the due date for Honors Contracts at my college. I ALMOST forgot about them. Luckily I foresaw this problem and printed off several copies of the contract and placed it into every class folder I have so it would constantly be in my face. Long story short I have a contract for Public Speaking and Religion and The Modern World. I have never done an Honors Class before but it seems simple enough, just extra work and a show of effort. I am motivated, I can do it. Below is the gist of the contracts.
Public Speaking:
- Extended Persuasive Speech (+15 mins)
- Required Q and A Session after Speech
- Book review on Aristotle’s Rhetoric contrasting between book’s lesson and semester’s lessons.
- At least 10 sources
- At least 1 in-person interview
Basically, my initial idea is that the speech will argue the importance and difference it makes in a student’s life to set goals and define a purpose as well as excelling at public speaking. There will actually be more than 1 interview. It would be nice to talk with various people about the difference setting or not setting purpose/goals has made in their lives. I will also incorporate the semester’s lessons into the speech. YAY. Additionally, I am toying with the idea of interaction and motivational style. In the Honors Program it is said that the project should benefit the class as a whole. What better way than to walk people through a short Purpose Workshop and Goal setting session?
Religion and the Modern World:
- Extra Speech about 10 – 15 minutes
- Included handouts
- Report (for instructor) covering, in more detail the speech’s topic
- At least 10 sources
- At least 1 in-person interview
For this one I am going to draw comparisons between Purpose (yes again), Somatics, Baby boomers and other religions. Obviously as the semester continues I will be able to define more thoroughly the similarities and differences. Personally I feel there are many more similarities than differences. This will be slightly interactive as well. I want the class to know more about how people’s lives change when they have worked past there life goal (Retirement), need to redefine their life, reshape their body, and the experiences and enlightenment they gain from it.
A video recording would be great to have, so if anyone wants to buy me a new video camera (one with an extended battery and hard drive instead of tapes/discs) I would be more than happy to record and send them a copy.
Adieu…

Hitches with Vista
Feb 2nd
My HP Scanjet 5200C doesn’t work with Vista, I cannot even ‘trick’ it into working. Argh. I almost had the same problem with my HP Deskjet 3320 printer but HP had a how-to fix on that. I guess I am in the market for an all in one at last. I guess in the end it will be okay. The scanner takes up a lot of real estate and the printer has its own little table, it will be nice to combine the two…when I get the next one. Anyone want to donate an All-in-one to my school work?
Website Review: LeeDodd.com
Feb 2nd
LeeDodd.com is a blog aimed towards internet business activities, industry news, his tips and insights into making money online. He also answers questions sent into him as well. Recently he revamped his site with a new look. Overall the color scheme is well chosen although I personally find the orange blog titles hard on the eyes, a blue might be better. The website is laid out well with the main menu bar along the top as normal, the content on the left, and categories and ads on the right.
Content seems to deal a lot with improving your own websites. Much of the advice and topics covered are done well and professionally. Lee gives tips on everything from what provider to use to suggestions on what affiliate programs you should sign up for. Overall Lee Dodd Dot Com is a well done site with a casual-professional twist.
OUTRAGE!!! Employer sues employee for quitting
Feb 2nd
These comments are mine, in response to this Slashdot article. This really angers me and should anger you too. This is ridiculous. RTFA for the more details. Even if it is legal it is against our liberties.
I would like to know who this hosting company is just in case I am using them.
Â
Â
Based on the available facts: This is bad leadership and decision making at its finest. I feel sorry for the other employees still there that catch wind of this. Sounds like a dictatorship and this type of practice is unacceptable in this day and age, for many reasons.
Â
Â
This is very identical to indentured servitude. Now the employee fears quitting for a better job in case he might be sued for seeking a better life, liberty or happiness elsewhere? WTF! I am livid… This is a domestic enemy, the former employer should be sued themselves for undue stress, trauma and whatever else you can think of. I do not serve in the military to protect tyrannical businessmen truly putting employees under their thumb.
Â
Â
Who is this employer? I smell a boycott in the works.

Express your outrage…

Innovation and progress is about to make more leaps and bounds as the new startup iBridge is linking Universities together to collaborate and share their research. I’m sure similar solutions exist but a quick visit to the website will show you how easy to use and important this development is. This article talked about it and this is iBridgenetwork.org
