Orb 2.0; Take Your Media With You

Orb 2.0 installs on your home pc and indexes your music, video files, documents and TV tuner card. You can access all your content via a web interface. You can one file or a whole playlist. Search for that document you need and record TV shows. The interface works on any device with a webbrowser and internet connection. Since most of these devices (your phone) can also play music files you can stream the music on your home computer to wherever you are.

This really beats needing a larger memory card to store more music. This even beats trying to synchronize your MP3 player with your desktop and then worrying about it being lost, broken or even stolen. If you are like me you probably have a couple movies on your computer, these are accessible as well.

The whole program from install to use is seamless. There is a built in speed test when you access your content away from home. This tells your home pc how much quality the video or audio should be set to. Obviously, the greater network speed means greater quality. If you use Windows Media Player and are an URGE subscriber, any of the downloaded music requiring DRM licensing still work through Orb!

I tested this on my Pocket PC with my GPRS connection and it worked fine, the video size was a bit smaller but the stream worked great. When I connected to a Wifi connection the video was flawless. By the way, it works great on Vista.

In addition to media access the interface is Web 2.0 style. You can add Google Gadgets, RSS feeds and more to personalize your MyCast page on Orb. After using the web interface a few times you might even feel inclined to set it as your homepage. Check it here. It’s Free!!!

Catch up. What is new this year.

I thought I might catch everyone up on what is new this year in my life without giving too much away. I became President of the HOA where I live as the other President stepped down. This is both good and bad. The bad comes from being the figure head of what everyone hates about an HOA. The good is that I take an active part in the welfare and wellbeing of my community.

National Guard wise, I have been made the Commander’s Gunner. Good position to be in. If you are not following, I am mechanized infantry (all the way through) and we operate Bradleys. There are various simulators used for training and more recently, the CO (Commander) and I were in the UCOFT, an older simulator. We shot all T’s for our engagements. From best to worst the training skill at this stage in the game is T, P, and U. T meaning Trained. So I was happy about that. We have a military ball next month so I am still deciding on whether I should shell out some dough and get a new dress uniform or not.

Additionally, I received my formal letter of acceptance into the Honors Program. I like tooting my own horn about this because it is solely my achievement and I deserve it. There are perks with Honors. For example, I will be attending the Symphony tomorrow night courtesy of the Honors Program. Life is good and it is important to stop and enjoy it from time to time.

Last but not least, I have a new writing gig. I will be doing reviews for PocketNow.com, They have been well established in the Pocket PC world for many years now, and provide many great reviews on everything from PDAs and software to the accessories that make them so great. I will get to review many of these as time goes by. Needless to say, I am very excited about this opportunity and my first review will be live in the next few weeks. I will keep you posted about the reviews by linking to them on their site, so stay tuned.

Taking everything into perspective, life is off to a great start this year. Gratitude.

What the weird?

I come to my site to login and see that one of my google adsense ads has turned into some weird tesla device. The banner goes to http://www.lifetechnology.org/teslashield.htm which made me laugh. Advertisers pay attention, when I see this ‘device’ I see a key ring holder for pills and money. I looked at the site briefly and did not see anything (image-wise) about what is actually in this thing for the 179.99 that they are charging. I have seen some magic pendants in my day and this takes the cake. At least make it look convincing or show us a picture of what is inside. Then maybe I will see a claim to it.

I wish I could be more choosy in my ads… sorry folks.

Steiner Binoculars at EagleOptics.com

Eagle Optics must have the largest assortment of optics I have seen on the internet. Right now they are running a special on financing with deals such as 90 days free financing and free financing on purchases over $200. The site is well designed, aesthetic and user friendly. You will suffer no headaches searching for the optics you desire. They also throw in free UPS ground shipping the 48 contiguous states. The Steiner Binoculars are known for their durability and quality. Many will recognize them as the same type used by the military. Anyone knows the military grade is one of the toughest around. So even if you are just looking for some recreational bird watching binos or some higher tech night vision, make EagleOptics.com your first stop.

Think you’re smart? Solve an open or unsolved problem

I thought everything was peachy keen until Slashdot reminded me of all the problems in the world. They even told me there was a whole organization dedicated to tracking and listing all our problems. Even Wikipedia keeps a list of unsolved problems as well. Okay people, this is the future right? Let’s go solve some problems…and while you’re at it…there is a problem with my bank account I want you to take care of.

Interesting Photos some kid took…

That is about the best way to put it. This guy befriended a homeless kid, gave him a basic lesson in cameras and then gave him one. Awhile later the kid sent him an envelope full of photos he had taken. Some were overdeveloped, over exposed and so on. On the other hand, many of them were extremely artistic. They received a lot of praise on the Somethingawful.com forums (goons will heckle anyone) and not a lot of heckling goons were to be found.

Why PayPerPost is so Great; College Students Pay Attention

You have something to say so you start blogging. Maybe you started off on Myspace (bleh) or Wordpress.com and eventually ended up hosting your own site. Perhaps you started self-hosting to begin with. Either way you have a space in which to proclaim to the world your unadulterated brilliance. You shout at the masses and decry ignorance from your virtual soapbox and grin at your accomplishments. At some point you begin to wonder “how can I get paid to blog?” So you signed up and sold some of your space for passive advertising, a year later you had 50$. What’s that? You want more? Okay.

PayPerPost is a broker for bloggers. 3rd parties come to PPP and ask them to ask YOU to write about their services, products, websites, etc. It is possible to be paid anywhere from $4 to $1000 for a single post. Yes $1000. The trick to getting the higher pay is to have a better website (better pagerank, better alexa score, better tack rating)

Here is how you get started:

First, you need a blog over 90 days old with quite a few postings already and update frequently. You can find out all the details on their site. Also you need to have a link on the main page to your archives ‘by date’. Additionally you need a disclosure policy similar to mine.

Secondly Click The Buttons Below. If you want to get paid to review something on my site you can do that. Just click the ‘Get Paid to Review My Post’ button

Or if you want to try your hand on something else first click the other button. Either way you are on your way to making money on your own. Be your own boss, work your own hours when you want and for as long as you want. So what are you waiting for? Get to it!

Interesting statues from around the world

This web site has a collection of photos of interesting statues from around the world. I thought that you might enjoy an aesthetic break from your day. There is a building in downtown Phoenix that has a lot of statues that are similar. They’re so lifelike that you think they are real people until you get closer. If you’re ever in the phoenix area, it is worth your time to stop at the Dial building and look at the statues there. If I am ever in the area I will try and get some photos for you. It is also interesting to note that the Dial building looks like a bar of soap if viewed from the side.
