These companies burn my ass like a fire about 3 feet high. They offer Veteran’s Day discounts anywhere from 20-50% ‘in honor of those that serve’ However! If one of ‘those that serve’ were to walk into the store any other day and ask if they have a Veteran’s discount they would get a solid ‘no’. Whatever happened to Veteran’s Discounts?

Russia Rattles a Saber

Calling it the ‘Father of All Bombs’, the Russians have flexed a muscle and countered the US’s MOAB, affectionately known as the ‘Mother of All Bombs’ claiming to have held a successful test. The specs sound impressive but I have yet to see a video or picture. It supposedly is as powerful as some nuclear weapons but doesn’t leave radiation. So that’s a good thing. It operates by dispersing a cloud of incendiary material over an area and then ignites it. Some sources are calling it a ‘vacuum bomb’.
There’s a saying going around on the internet when it comes to news; “No picture? No Video? Then it didn’t happen” However! I have a picture…of something.

Part of Patriot Act struck down by Judge!

Strike one up for the good guys! Federal Judge Victor Marrero said that investigator’s must have court’s approval before subpoenaing Internet provider’s to hand over records without notifying customers. He further stated that it clearly violated the constitutional concepts and principles of checks and balances!
I hope this develops into a trend. Calling it the Patriot Act doesn’t make it Patriotic. If anyone knows of any studies that show if it effective against terrorism or not, I would love to see them. Information should be free but not freely used against honest citizens.

OUTRAGE!!! Employer sues employee for quitting

These comments are mine, in response to this Slashdot article. This really angers me and should anger you too. This is ridiculous. RTFA for the more details. Even if it is legal it is against our liberties.
I would like to know who this hosting company is just in case I am using them.

Based on the available facts: This is bad leadership and decision making at its finest. I feel sorry for the other employees still there that catch wind of this. Sounds like a dictatorship and this type of practice is unacceptable in this day and age, for many reasons.

This is very identical to indentured servitude. Now the employee fears quitting for a better job in case he might be sued for seeking a better life, liberty or happiness elsewhere? WTF! I am livid… This is a domestic enemy, the former employer should be sued themselves for undue stress, trauma and whatever else you can think of. I do not serve in the military to protect tyrannical businessmen truly putting employees under their thumb.

Bush will go Bananas

In 2008 keep your eye open over Texas. This Wired Article tells us that Montreal artist César Saez plans to launch a Giant Banana Shaped Balloon over Texas. From the article
“The astrofruit is an artistic commentary on the absurdity of American politics — especially Texan-style kookiness, says Saez.”
The project, “Geostationary Banana Over Texas“, is estimate to cost $1 million, the balloon will steer itself randomly over Texas and after about a month the Sun’s radiation will eat away at the outer layer and eventually it will burn up before touching the earth again.

President of the HOA

This week, at our monthly HOA meeting the president stepped down and I became the acting president. I will be the third one in a year. There are reasons for this.
In our little community there are all the kinds of people it takes to make a community. However there is one individual in particular, that althought she thinks she is doing right, she is actually causing harm and impeding progress.
Our buildings are over 40 years old and need some serious work done on them if they are going to last anywhere close to another 40. With nothing done to them I can see them being condemned in the next 15.
I’m just thinking out loud here. I think I will write an Introduction letter with a vision for the community and have it mailed to everyone. The important thing is that everyone be made aware of what is going on and get us on the same page. I can safely assume that not everyone will agree with my vision (of improving the complex) but this will be good as it increases the chances that they will actually attend a meeting and give feedback.
When it comes to Vision the road is wide and we can all share the road for a little while if we are all going in the same direction. I hope to learn a lot, contribute a lot, and make our commmunity a better place.
